Giving Back to Our Community Through Thriving Pink
We have 6 core values here at Brooks Painting. One of those values is Community. We define that as “engaging and giving back to our community”. We do this in many ways throughout the year. We hold our annual charity paint, sponsor various community events, get involved with our various local chambers of commerce, as well as donate money and time. Thriving Pink is one of the organizations that we want to be involved with each year.
Why Thriving Pink? I think most of us today have been touched by cancer one way or another. Here at Brooks Painting we have 2 main stories that motivate us to be involved with Thriving Pink. For Jeremy Brooks it was a friend Pauline Bitners who taught with his wife at North Davis Elementary. Jeremy coached their son Nolan in little league several years ago, and both boys played football with Jeremy’s youngest son Zach. She lost her battle to cancer 7 years ago. For Shawn O’Brien, our field manager, his wife also lost her battle to cancer. This was devastating for Shawn and his daughter.
This year's annual Thriving Pink Gala was changed, due to Covid, to a virtual gala. Shawn did our video contribution for Brooks Painting. While we missed being there in person, we are thrilled to be a part of this organization and support them financially. They are the only nonprofit in Yolo County which focuses on serving and supporting local breast cancer survivors.
