The Accent Wall
Step 1. Pick the right wall
You’ll want a wall that already provides interest, such a wall with a fireplace or unique window. Often a symmetrical wall is recommended for the accent wall, if there isn’t an obvious choice.
Step 2. Pick the right color
Your accent wall should complement your dominant color, not blend into it. You’ll want to go with a darker shade, rather than lighter, or the room may be appear smaller. A good rule of thumb is to go at least 2-3 shades darker with accent color.
Simplify it - The 60-30-10 rule:
60% of your room should be painted with the dominant color.
30% of the room is dedicated to the accent color. Curtains, bedding, and furniture tend look best in the accent color.
10% of the room can be dedicated to other decor and accessories.
