Front Door Finishing Makes a Great First Impression

This is a front door in Sacramento, CA that we recently finished inside and out. It was a brand new door that was installed by the Window & Door shop, a fellow NARI member. The job took 3 days to complete from start to finish. On the first day we sanded the door and applied wood filler in all the knot holes per the owner’s request, to ensure that moisture would be sealed out. On day 2 we applied a wiping stain to the door to achieve the desired color. On day 3 we came applied 2 coats of a clear satin marine varnish. It is important to seal all the edges of the door so that the moisture has no place to penetrate. If this is not done, it voids the warranty of the door. The customer is a local realtor and was very specific in his desire for us to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines, which we did. He is very happy with the results and his new front door. And, we think it is beautiful!
