Why a Job Walk is a Critical Part of Working with a Painting Contractor

If you are hiring a contractor to paint a home, business, interior, exterior or cabinets, meeting with the painting contractor is one of the most critical steps in the process of planning and completing your painting project. Make sure to meet with the contractor and get your questions answered up front.

Inspect the conditions of the surface to be painted: A contractor should thoroughly inspect all surfaces

Measure the surfaces: A professional contractor will have production and spread rates figured out based upon previous jobs they have completed. If the contractor you are meeting with doesn’t take time to measure and calculate the square footage, linear footage, and prep work, it is likely they are guessing at how long the job will take. An accurate estimate will be based upon proven data that a contractor has accumulated over time.

Discuss Colors & Schemes: Right colors are an important part of the painting job. Just like prep work and application are critical, so are your final colors. A professional will have experience with palates of colors, and offer advice for your project. We chose Brooks Painting based on their excellent reputation. It was an excellent choice! We had them do a complete exterior and almost complete interior painting of our two story house. They were done separately, while we were out of town. We are very pleased with the quality of the work. They even fixed up a few mistakes made by a crew that painted a portion of our interior ceilings a month prior (removal of asbestos popcorn ceiling), at no extra charge. Cleanup was great, also. They repaired some dry rot that was uncovered (extra charge, but worth it), and they even moved furniture back into place as well as put back the curtain rods that I had taken down, which wasn't expected. I highly recommend them, and will use them again for any future paint jobs.

Hiring Brooks Painting was an easy and professional process the whole way through, from the estimate to the completion of having my very high walls edged, where I was unable to reach them. Crew Leader Eric was prompt and super capable, which was a relief since he had to maneuver and climb a very tall ladder.
