Color of 2014
Yes, there really is an expert out there that selects a color of the year. That expert is not one individual but actually a group of people at the Pantone Color Institute and the color for 2014 is…drum roll, please…Radiant Orchid. Each year the folks at Pantone comb the world looking for color influences in art, entertainment and fashion. Their color of the year influences all industries, including fashion, home design and even packaging. This year’s Emerald was selected as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity. Radiant Orchid is said to encourage expanded creativity and originality.
“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute. For use in the painting industry, I would use the color to liven up neutrals such as gray or taupe. Sherwin Williams was inspired by the color, went a step further and named 6263 Exclusive Plum as their color of the year.
Personally, I would venture to say that the experts at Pantone know what they’re talking about. They’ve been seen as the expert for the last decade and with a woman at the helm with a name like Eiseman, she’s got to be the expert!
