Trendy or Timeless?
Do you select paint color based on the latest trends or do you select color based on what you love? Do you play it safe, or are you bold and daring? If I were helping you select color for your interior painting, I would start by looking at your furnishings and then move to what you love. Most people wear their favorite color, or the color that people compliment them in the most. We can do the same when it comes to selecting the color for our homes, but selecting a neutral palette for the walls is generally the safest way to go. You can always put that punch of color in your soft furnishings to jazz up your home.
As far as selecting color for your walls based on the latest trends, unless you’re ambitious and not afraid of changing to a new color every 2-3 years, and have the budget and time to change your paint color that often, I would guide you away from that choice. The latest trends, according to the Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2012 event, are colors drawn from nature; earth tones, reds, blues and greens. That makes your choice easier, as those colors are pretty timeless. So this year, you can call yourself trendy and timeless when selecting color for your interior walls because this year it’s all about nature.
Who knows what next year will bring? I’ll get back to you on that and then we can start this process all over again and have fun with color.
