Caring for New Interior Paint
How Should I Care For My New Interior Paint?
Paint can dramatically change the appearance of a home or business, from both a color standpoint and a cleanliness look. There are a number of things that go into ensuring your new paint job looks great for years to come.
This all starts with picking the right colors and choosing a quality paint. You might pick the color, or your painter may help, or you may even hire a designer to help. Color choice can be one of the most stressful parts of the whole job, and it is important to make sure you are happy with your choice. Once the color is decided upon, make sure you choose a high quality paint. This ensures that you will have a durable finish that will last down the road. This is not an area to try and save a few dollars.
Now the walls are painted, you can just sit back and enjoy the job. Well...not so fast. You will have to touch up the walls at some point down the road. Life happens - kids draw on the walls, animals scratch it, or you may ding it moving furniture. You want to be prepared, so make sure your painter leaves you leftover paint for future touch up. This should be left in the original can, sealed well, and clearly labeled for the areas it was originally used.
Before touching up, you want to try and gently clean marks first. Start with warm water, a little dish soap, and a soft rag. If that doesn’t work, it is time for touching up the paint. Paint can change a little over time, so your touch up might show slightly. To touch up, you want to blend out the spot, feathering the edges out gently. If you are out of paint and need to get more for touch up be very careful. You want to make sure to buy the exact same paint. This means brand, product, sheen, and color. If the paint company no longer make that exact paint, it is next to impossible to do touch up. If it has been more than 10 years, you will need to paint walls corner to corner.
