To Stain or Not to Stain… a Front Door Dilemma!
When you choose to invest in a new front door to make a statement, chances are you are spending a good amount of money for that door. You’ve made one big decision on choosing the perfect door, now it’s time to make your decision on what kind of finish to use on that door. If you’ve purchased an expensive solid wood door, I would venture to say that you don’t want to cover it up with paint, but rather show off the beautiful wood. Often time people choose to use a colored stain with a clear-coat over it and it really makes an impact. Another option that clients sometimes forget to consider, but we are a fan of, is to not use a colored stain at all. We can use a wood conditioner that will bring out the natural depth and beauty of the wood and then a couple coats of clear over that for protection. We’ve seen some beautiful results! Below is one of them. This knotty alder door is finished with conditioner and clear coat, no added color.
