Stop Graffiti With Protective Coatings!
Graffiti can be illegal “tagging” that gets the artist recognition, intricate commissioned murals, or gang symbols. Regardless of the type, if it is on your building or other structure without permission, it is vandalism. Graffiti can detract from your business’ professional appearance and property value. Getting rid of graffiti early is key to stopping more from happening, and anti-graffiti coatings are the best way to eliminate a graffiti problem.
Initial Preparation
If graffiti is showing up on your commercial or industrial structure, preparation is key to proper removal. When it is on painted surfaces, light surface preparation and new topcoat painting jobs are often satisfactory for a start. When graffiti is on surfaces like exposed brick or concrete, your painting contractor may need to use more extensive surface preparation such as sandblasting to completely remove it before applying anti-graffiti coatings.
Anti-Graffiti Coating Application
Once the graffiti is removed, the wall might be seen as an inviting blank canvas unless you apply anti-graffiti coatings. These are clear coatings that put an invisible defense by sealing the substrate against spray paint soaking in, and they allow for quick and easy washing off of future graffiti.
They come in two main types: sacrificial and permanent.
Sacrificial coatings are typically wax-based. If graffiti is painted on a wall protected with a sacrificial anti-graffiti coating, the coating can be quickly pressure-washed off, taking the graffiti with it. A new coating can then be applied.
Permanent or non-sacrificial coatings protect the substrate from spray paint with a film of tough polyurethane or another base. When graffiti is painted over this it can be removed with solvents that leave the anti-graffiti coating intact.
Anti-graffiti painting services are effective for nearly any surface, including brick, concrete, wood, metal, various paint finishes, etc. If you are interested in protecting your facility from graffiti or in dealing with an existing graffiti problem, give us a call!
