What is the Color of the Year for 2013?
The standard for color comes from the Pantone color palette. Each year they select a color that they anticipate will be “the” color based on fashion and design trends. For 2012 it was Tangerine Tango. Just the name puts a smile on your face. In 2011 it was a pink Honeysuckle. This year, they’ve declared Emerald Green as the color of the year and you will see Emerald Green popping up everywhere, including paint.Green is a color that symbolizes nature. It provides balance and harmony. It is a relaxing color, so it’s used in hospitals because it relaxes patients. People waiting to go on t.v. sit in “green rooms” to relax. Dark green is masculine; it’s conservative and implies wealth. It’s a very easy color on the eye. I’ve used a dark green paint called Messenger Bag from Sherwin Williams a lot on exteriors lately. It complements brick facades very nicely, and when combined with white trim and gloss black front door, it’s quite stunning and sophisticated. I wouldn’t recommend an emerald green on an exterior, but for an interior space or an accent wall, it could make the room come alive and soothe at the same time.
Not very many painting contractors have a color consultant available to work with their clients to find the perfect paint colors for their interior or exterior painting project. They generally hand a color card over and tell them to pick something, and more often than not, homeowners are left not knowing where to start. As a color consultant at Brooks Painting, it’s my job to know what colors compliment each other and it’s my job to steer my clients in the right direction when asked to help them select the “right” green for their home. I’m passionate about color, so I find that my passion is helpful for those clients that are reticent about selecting color. Together, we find just the right fit, and we will find the perfect green.
