Keeping up on Color Trends
One of the important jobs of a color consultant is keeping up on the color trends. Many customers want to know what’s “in” and they want their home's paint colors to reflect the latest trends. One of the best tools for me is provided by Sherwin Williams and they call it Colormix. Architects, designers and specifiers gather to hear about the upcoming trends in color and design. The trend for 2012 was color that related to the earth, i.e., sky blues, mossy greens, sandy beiges, etc. Colormix 2013 is entitled “Opposites Attract” and will be held at the California Historical Society in San Francisco in a joint celebration of color and the 75th anniversary of the treasured Golden Gate Bridge. The senior designer for Sherwin Williams will be talking about the magnetic pull of the color spectrum and how the color trends coming in 2013 will be the palettes that reflect our diverse lifestyles, mindsets and design philosophies. They will look at moods generated by color, from electric, high-voltage lime greens to moody, murky shadowy grays and blues.
Many of my customers spend more time worrying about paint color selection than using the right painting product. Sharing color trends is just one more tool to put in my tool belt to help them select the right color to create the mood that they want for their home.
